About

As I Read is born of my self-indulgence. I like to read, and I like to think about and understand what I have read afterwards.

So I write these reviews for myself, but also I hope to connect with other readers through my reviews, give people ideas of what to read next, spark discussions in the comments.

this is me reading books with my daughter
and a few teddies as well
I think, if you are here reading this, then you probably agree that reading is pretty excellent. So let's do more of it. I tend to get through a book a week, on average, sometimes less than that if I'm busy with other things, sometimes more if I'm not. So I should upload about 52 reviews in a year, which isn't bad.

I read both poetry and prose, but more prose than poetry. Maybe I'll even shake it up and review a play every now and again. It all depends what I'm into at the time. And very soon I hope to set up an author interview page that could be pretty exciting, where I'll talk to authors of books I have reviewed and try to quiz them in depth about those books and maybe a little bit about their writing in a wider context, too.

So please, keep coming back to this blog, and talk to me. Let me know what you thought of any of these books and recommend some other books for me. I really miss my Bachelor's in English Literature where we'd sit around a table endlessly discussing sexual empire in Heart of Darkness, or how Samuel Beckett wrote a play in which nothing happens, twice...
